Course Map

Taieri Lakes is a challenging 18 hole championship golf course, and the only one in the Dunedin metropolitan area to feature multiple water hazards.  The addition of the two new holes in December 2020 has added to its challenge.

To cater for multiple levels of player, there are four sets of tees:

Black – Championship, 5897 metres

White – Mens, 5620 metres

Yellow – Ladies, 5098 metres

Purple – Junior/Beginner 2000 metres

There is also a “flat 9” layout that is played on the flat parts of the course and is open for play on Mondays.

Hole 1

Par 5 | 450M | SI 10 Short, straight par 5 that longer hitters will be will be expecting to reach in two. But beware, a lake awaits any drives hit too far left, and trees and a well-placed bunker will trap any shots drifting right. The elevated green is guarded by two bunkers, and any shots falling short will find their way into the creek that guards the approach.

Hole 2

Par 3.     100M.   SI 16.        Elevated par 3 that plays longer that its yardage.  The long thin green has plenty of slope and a ball above the hole makes for a difficult two putt.  A par here is always a good result.

Hole 3

Par 4 | 300M | SI 8 An elevated tee shot that favours a left to right shape. A good drive will set up a mid to short iron, but with a hazard long and left, and large trees and a creek on the right there is a premium of finding the fairway. The green is guarded by bunkers front left and right.

Hole 4

Par 3 | 180M | SI 2 A long, tough par 3. With a creek 20M short of this green and flowing around to the right of the green, the safe shot keeps to the left side. The green has some deceptive slopes and this hole deserves its low stroke index.

Hole 5

Par 5 | 455M | SI 14        A dogleg right par 5 that is reachable in two by longer hitters.  Requires a left to right tee shot to avoid going through the fairway into the hazard, the approach shot needs to navigate the three bunkers guarding the green.

Hole 7

Par 3 | 100M | SI 4        Every great course has a great short par 3 and this is Taieri's.  It is short but it deserves it low stroke index as it requires a precise tee shot to find the green and keep dry.  A bail out area to the left is there for those that need it.  A par on this hole is always a good score.

Hole 8

Par 4 | 273M | SI 12        Another short par 4, but with water on the left from the tee box to the green one that needs to be negotiated with care.  The longest of hitters might consider a go at the green, but OOB left and long will require a perfect tee shot.  Those laying up face a daunting second over the water to an undulating green.  The last hole of Amen Corner, if you have made it through here in par or better you have gained shots on the field.

Hole 9

Par 4 | 354M | SI 6        OOB all down the left and large trees down the right puts a premium on finding the fairway on this par 4.  Bunkers to left and front right of the green.

Hole 10

Par 4 | 310M | SI 17        Straight par 4 with a large green.  A bunker on the left of the fairway needs to be avoided, and a long drive that is on the left of the fairway might find the large gum tree interfering with the second shot.  Two deep bunkers on the front left and right guard the approach.

Hole 11

Par 3 | 164M | SI 15        Medium length par 3 back over the lake.  A deep bunker guards the front left of the two tiered green, with another to the right.

Hole 12

Par 4 | 356M | SI 11        A sharp dogleg left that requires a well-placed tee shot to set up the approach.  The large green is guarded by a bunker on the left.

Hole 13

Par 4 | 369M | SI 5        Another slight dogleg left, this is a longish par 4 that requires a well struck drive.  Large trees that guard both sides of the fairway are to be avoided if you are to have a clear shot to the green.  Bunkers front left and right.

Hole 14

Par 4 | 385M | SI 7       A long straight par 4 with a wide tree lined fairway, and a large green protected by a bunker on the left, and front right.

Hole 15

Par 5 | 521M | SI 1        A long hole that plays slightly uphill, it is a true three shot hole and only the very longest of hitters will have a chance of reaching in two.  With a creek that runs the length of the hole on the left, and deep bunkers to the right of the green this hole deserves its number 1 stroke rating.

Hole 16

Par 4 | 378M | SI 13       An elevated tee shot to a wide fairway is inviting, but beware the leaked shots on this gentle dogleg right.  Missing the fairway to the right side rarely gives a clear shot to the large green.

Hole 17

Par 4 | 313M | SI 9       A short par 4 that plays much longer than its yardage as the second shot plays uphill. A drive missing this fairway will rarely yield a shot to the green, and once on the putting surface it does not get much easier on this sloping green.

Hole 17

Par 4 | 313M | SI 9       A short par 4 that plays much longer than its yardage as the second shot plays uphill. A drive missing this fairway will rarely yield a shot to the green, and once on the putting surface it does not get much easier on this sloping green.

Hole 6

Par 4 | 273M | SI 18        Short picturesque par 4 the meanders around a lake, and the start of Taieri's Amen Corner.  Long hitters can have a go at this green but with water short and long only the best drives will find the putting surface.  Two well played medium/short irons might be the more sensible option here.

Hole 18

Par 5 | 541M | SI 3 Long straight par 5 to finish. The elevated tee invites you to open your shoulders, but the lake on the left of the fairway needs to be avoided to get to the clubhouse on a positive note. The green slopes from front to back and is guarded by a large bunker to the right.
